MIT School of Bioengineering Sciences & Research organized MEDHA 2018 Hackathon with IIT Bombay BETiC Centre
Medical Device Hackathon popularly known as MEDHA concluded on 4th–5th August 2018 at MIT School of Bioengineering (MITBIO), MIT-ADT University, Pune. MEDHA is an initiative of BETiC- Biomedical Engineering and Technology incubation Centre at IIT Bombay. It is a two day Hackathon whose main aim to identify young medical device innovators. Students from various streams like medical, engineering, Bioengineering and industrial design team together and come up with indigenous cost-effective medical device which can impact human health.
The chief guest of the function was Padma Vibhushan Dr. K.H. Sancheti, Chairman and Managing Director of Sancheti Hospitals. Other dignitaries present during the event were Dr. B.B. Ahuja, Director of COEP, Pune, Dr. Suresh Govind Ghaisas, President, MAEERS MIT group of institutes, Dr. Mangesh Karad, Executive President, MIT-ADT University, Dr. Sunil Rai, Vice Chancellor, MIT-ADT University.
The chief organizers of the event were Prof. Vinayak Ghaisas, Direct or, MITBIO and Dr. Renu Vyas, Head of School, MITBIO.
Dr. K. H. Sancheti inspired participants and students for making India the centre of Medical Device Innovation and discussed need of multidisciplinary knowledge for Healthcare sector. Dr. B. B. Ahuja emphasised the necessity of introducing biology in engineering field.
From a total of 100 applications, only best 40 participants were selected and divided into 10 teams to battle it out in a 28 hour non-stop event. The teams developed innovative solutions under the guidance of COEP and BETiC mentors and presented their proof of concept and prototypes to a team of eminent jury members consisting of doctors from MIMER Medical college Dean Dr R. P. Gupta, Dr. Dasmit Singh B. J. Medical College, Dr. B. B. Ahuja Director COEP, Pro. V. C. Dr. U. Chandrashekhar Veltech University, Dr. Kuthe VNIT Nagpur and Mr. Ajay Purohit TATA Motors. The event was chaired and concluded by Prof. B. Ravi, Head, BETiC who encouraged all participants to develop further upon their idea towards enhancing human healthcare.
